Ingredients for Salted Caramel Indulgence

For the Caramel Sponge Cake:

  • 2 1/2 cups (310g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) caramel sauce

For the Caramel Cream:

  • 8 oz (226g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups (375g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) caramel sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

For Decoration:

  • Caramel shards (homemade or store-bought)
  • Drizzle of salted caramel sauce

 

Recipe for Salted Caramel Indulgence

Step 1: Make the Caramel Sponge Cake

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in eggs, one at a time, followed by milk and caramel sauce.
  5. Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely.

Step 2: Prepare the Caramel Cream

  1. Cream Butter and Cheese: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add Powdered Sugar and Caramel: Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in caramel sauce and sea salt until well combined.

Step 3: Assemble the Cake

  1. Layer the Cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a thick layer of caramel cream on top.
  2. Add the Second Layer: Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining caramel cream.
  3. Decorate: Garnish with caramel shards and a drizzle of salted caramel sauce for a stunning finish.
